This is Elizabeth and Thomas and the hearts represent that they both love their mommy a lot.

Cute boy!

Every Sunday we have dinner with Bruce's parents. We really enjoy this and it is even more fun when the other family members are there. Well this past Sunday Nathan (our nephew) was there also. After dinner I took Thomas' helmet off since it was getting close to his bedtime. Nathan then looked at Thomas and said in a surprised voice: "He is a cute boy (without the helmet)". It was pretty funny.

Today I took Thomas in to his appointment at the orthopedic center and to his doctor at Primary Children's Hospital and both of them said his head had wonderfully improved. As of today he will only wear his helmet at night (for the next month).

We eten elke zondag bij Bruce zijn ouders. Dit is altijd erg gezellig, maar het is nog leuker als de andere familie leden ook komen. Afgelopen zondag was Nathan (ons neefje) er ook. Na het eten deed ik Thomas' helm even af aangezien het bijna bedtijd was. Nathan keek vervolgens naar Thomas en zei heel verbaasd: "Wat is hij een knap jongetje (zonder helm)". Het was echt heel grappig.

Vandaag had Thomas een afspraak bij het orthopedisch centrum (waar zijn helm behandeling plaats vindt) en bij de specialist in het kinderziekenhuis. Beide zeiden dat zijn hoofd er heel goed uit ziet en dat hij vanaf vandaag de helm alleen nog maar 's nachts hoeft te dragen (voor een maand). Het einde is in zicht.

Happy Birthday Bruce!

We woke up this morning by Elizabeth's cute voice (from her room) saying: "Guess who's birthday it is today?" Then she quickly came into our room and we began singing happy birthday to daddy. She was so excited to celebrate his birthday. She quickly went down to get his presents and she was so happy she could finally give him his present. After we finished opening presents she told him he had to come down to watch how we decorated the room (he was there when we did it last night). For birthdays we decorate the house with colored flags and balloons.

Toen we vanochtend wakker werden hoorden we Elizabeth's schattige stem (vanuit haar kamer) en ze zei: "Raad een wie er vandaag jarig is?" Daarna kwam ze vlug naar onze kamer toe en zongen wij samen "Happy Birthday". Ze ging vervolgens snel naar beneden om de kadootjes op te halen want ze wilde niet langer wachten om ze te geven. Nadat we klaar waren met de kadootjes moest papa toch wel snel mee naar beneden om te zien hoe mooi alles wel niet versierd was (ps hij was erbij toen wij het gisterenavond versierden hahaha).

We had french toast for breakfast and after that Bruce had to quickly leave to work to attend a meeting.
For lunch we met Bruce at his work and went to the cafeteria. This was a real treat for Elizabeth.

We hadden wentelteefjes voor het ontbijt en daarna moest Bruce er al weer snel vandoor omdat hij een vroege vergadering op het werk had. Voor het middageten zijn we naar Bruce zijn werk gegaan om met hem te eten in het cafetaria. Dat vond Elizabeth echt super leuk.

On our way home from our lunch with Bruce we stopped by the nursery close to our house and picked up a pumpkin to carve (since Halloween is only 2 days away).

Op de terugweg stopten we nog even bij het tuincentrum bij ons om de hoek om een pompoen te kopen (aangezien het over 2 dagen Halloween is).

Babi and Grandpa came over for dinner and after we were done we carved the pumpkin. Since Bruce doesn't necessarily enjoy sticking his had in the the pumpkin to clean it up we asked for Babi and Grandpa's help. They willingly (at least it seemed like it) helped get our pumpkin ready. Like her daddy Elizabeth put her hand in the pumpkin once and was done after that. Like father like daughter. She did not like the feel of it. Thank you Babi and Grandpa for helping us.

Babi en Granpa kwamen 's avonds bij ons eten en daarna hebben we de pompoen klaargemaakt voor Halloween. Aangezien Bruce het maar niets vindt om pompoenen schoon te maken hadden we zijn ouders maar gevraagd om te helpen. Elizabeth vond het net zoals haar vader maar niet om haar handen in de pompoen te steken en helemaal vies te worden. Ze heeft het een keer geprobeerd maar dat was genoeg. Dank je wel Babi en Grandpa voor jullie hulp.



After the pumpkin was all cleaned up Bruce helped Elizabeth to carve a face in the pumpkin. She decided she wanted to have a sad face on on side and a happy face on the opposite side. (I'll post a picture later. )

Nadat de pompoen helemaal schoon was hebben Bruce en Elizabeth samen een gezicht op de pompoen gemaakt. Elizabeth wilde een blij gezicht aan de ene kant en een verdrietig gezicht aan de andere kant. (De foto van de pompoen komt spoedig)

It was a fun day.

Bruce we love you a lot. You are a wonderful husband and a fantastic daddy.

Het was al met al een hele gezellige dag.

Bruce wij houden erg veel van jou. Je bent een fantastische man en vader.

Laughing boy!!

I just had to share one more video of Thomas. I just love this boy so much. It is amazing to see how much he loves his sister and how easy she can make him LAUGH. Whatever she does he thinks it is funny. Enjoy!

The beginning of the end!

This was the beginning of the end. Now a few days later he has weaned himself completely from his pacifier. He refuses to have it in his mouth. I am not to happy about this. Luckily he has no problems going to sleep without it. It would have been nice for our flight to The Netherlands in December. I think (I hope!!!!) the reason is because he is teething. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Dit was het begin van het einde. Een paar dagen nadat hij dit begon te doen wilde hij zijn speen helemaal niet meer hebben. Ik ben hier niet echt blij mee. Ik wilde zijn speen pas weg halen na onze reis naar Nederland in december. Gelukkig heeft hij er geen problemen mee om zonder zijn speen in slaap te vallen. Ik denk (ik hoop!!) dat hij zijn speen om het moment niet meer wil omdat hij tanden krijgt. Laten we het hopen.

Fall

I just love the fall!

We see these beautiful trees when we look out of our front window. I love the changing of the colors. These pictures were taken just a few days apart and you can already see how much more red they have become.

Wanneer we uit ons raam kijken zien we deze mooie bomen. Het is zo een mooi gezicht om de kleuren van de bomen te zien veranderen. Deze foto's waren een paar dagen na elkaar gemaakt en je kunt al goed zien dat ze veel roder zijn geworden.


I've been canning pears, apples and tomatoes. This year our tomatoes ripening quite late and when the first frost came around I didn't cover nor pick them so that was the end of it :(. Luckily our neighbor Natalie had a lot of left over tomatoes and let me use some of hers. Thanks!

Ik heb de afgelopen dagen peren, apples en tomaten ingewekt. De meeste van onze tomaten waren dit jaar nog niet rijp toen wij anderhalve week geleden de eerste vorst hadden en aangezien ik vergeten was ze af te dekken of te plukken was dat het einde :(. Gelukkig had Natalie (mijn buurvrouw) veel extra tomaten en kreeg ik een hele lading van haar. Bedankt!

Caroline

When Harold passed away my cousin Caroline flew in from The Netherlands to attend his funeral. She spent a week at our home. It was so good to have her. She has always been like a big sister to me. I have always looked up to her and she was and still is a great example to me. We just spent the week enjoying each other. Elizabeth loved being around her. Every morning she would vanish into the basement and just hangout with Caroline. She was so sad when Caroline left.

Mijn nicht Caroline uit Nederland was hiernaartoe gevlogen om Harold's begrafenis bij te wonen. Na de begrafenis bleef ze nog een weekje bij ons. Het was echt leuk om haar bij ons op bezoek te hebben. Ze is altijd een soort grote zus voor mij geweest en ik heb altijd naar haar opgekeken. Elizabeth kon het heel goed met haar vinden. Ze wilde 's ochtends meteen naar beneden toe naar Caroline om met haar te spelen. Ze was erg verdrietig toen Caroline vertrok.

Daphne

This is my cute sister Daphne. She decided to take a break for a year and go to Australia and go backpacking. She has always been adventurous and once she had set her mind to this made it work. Have fun in Australia. We love you!

Dit is mijn schattige zusje Daphne. Zij is net naar Australie vertrokken en gaat daar voor een jaar backpacken. Ze is een avonturier en dit is echt iets voor haar. Ze heeft de afgelopen maanden erg hard gewerkt om dit te kunnen doen. Petje af Daphne. Veel plezier in Australie. We houden van je!

My cousin Harold

My cousin Harold passed away a few weeks ago at the tender age of 46. He passed away after a courageous three and a half year battle with brain cancer. I have been blessed to get to know him a little bit in the last two years. He was a wonderful man and great example to his family. As I visited with them a few times before his passing there was always a very peaceful and pleasant feeling in their home. I could feel the love they had for each other and knew they had a good understanding of the Plan of Salvation. They treasured the time they had with him before he passed away but knew this was not the end and that they would one day be together again as an eternal family. What a blessing it is to know that families can be forever. Attending his funeral was a sad but on the other hand uplifting experience. The memories and stories shared about his life inspired me to be a better person.

Mijn neef Harold is een paar weken geleden overleden. Hij was nog maar 46. Hij overleed na drie en een half jaar lange strijd met een hersen tumor. Het was een zegen om hem de afgelopen twee jaar een beetje beter te leren kennen. Hij was een fantastische man en een goed voorbeeld voor zijn familie. Gelukkig heb ik hem nog een paar keer gezien vlak voordat hij overleed. Er was altijd een erg vredig en prettig gevoel in hun huis ondanks het feit dat ze wisten dat hij gauw zou overlijden. Ik kon altijd zien hoeveel ze van elkaar hielden als een familie en dat ze een goed begrip van het plan van zaligheid hadden. De paar weken die ze samen doorbrachten als een familie voor zijn overlijden was hun erg dierbaar maar ze wisten dat dit niet het einde was en dat ze op een dag weer samen zouden zijn als een eeuwige familie. Wat een zegen het is om te weten dat onze families voor eeuwig zijn. Zijn begravenis was verdrietig, maar aan de andere kant was het ook een hele positieve ervaring. De herinneringen en verhalen over zijn leven waren erg inspirerend en door zijn voorbeeld zal ik ernaar streven om een beter persoon te worden.

Elizabeth was so excited to have her cousin Emma over to play with her. The girls made necklaces out of cheerios and little pieces of straws. It is amazing to see how much fun you can have with very simple things. While they were making their necklaces I thought it would be fun to take a few pictures. As I was doing this Emma asked: "Are you going to put these on the blog?" Hahaha. Pictures equals Blog. So here they are!

Elizabeth was erg blij dat haar nichtje Emma bij haar kwam spelen. Ze maakten kettingen van Cheerios en rietjes (in kleine stukjes geknipt). Het is fantastisch om te zien hoeveel plezier ze hadden met zulke simpele dingen. Ik dacht dat het leuk zou zijn om een paar foto's van ze te maken. Terwijl ik dit deed vroeg Emma: "Ga je de foto's op het blog zetten?" Hahaha. Zo hier zijn ze Emma!


After they were done they watched Dora and ate their Cheerio necklace (easy snack).

Nadat de kettingen klaar waren keken ze een Dora Dvd en aten hun Cheerio ketting op (makkelijke versnapering).

6 Month Picture

The day (the end of august) before Thomas got his helmet I took him in to have his picture taken. I thought it turned out really cute. He is just such a sweet little boy. He is just such a smiley boy. We feel so blessed to have him as a part of our family.

We hebben deze foto de dag voordat Thomas zijn helm kreeg (eind augustus) laten maken. Hij is zo een lief jongetje en we voelen ons erg gezegend om hem in onze familie te hebben.
