Recoleta Cemetary

While we were there the Former Argentine President Raul Alfonsin, who led Argentina from military to civilian rule died. It was quite a big thing. Our apartment was located next to the Recoleta Cemetery (very famous cemetery) were he was going to be buried. On the day of his burial I came back from the grocery store (walking) and saw the streets lined with people waiting to get a glimpse of the casket coming by.


Since the cemetery was right next door I decided to take the children there the next day. It was a very interesting experience. The caskets are not put under the ground. They put them in these "little houses". When you look inside you can often see the caskets. We looked inside one of them (you can't go inside, just look through the glass or little gates) and there were five caskets sitting on top of each other. It was a great experience to discuss more about the resurrection with Elizabeth.

This was the grave of "Evita" Eva Peron.
